Here are a few stained glass restorations I’ve been doing in Devon lately. I’ve been very lucky in having the opportunity to work on some genuinly stunning 1900’s Victorian leaded lights. Some part restoration, some full restoration and some insitu repairs. It really is such a pleasure to do what I do. Knowing that im adding another few hundred years or so onto the life of these artistcally beautiful, historic stained glass.
I find that whilst there are a fair few talented crafts people out there making commissions, there are a lot less people working on restoring the old bits of glass that are the original inspiration for artists and people working in traditional skills. So I’m really glad to of been employed for a few years by Matthew @inthewindows when he was running City Stained Glass in Sussex. Working solely on restorations. His amazing dad Keith Knickels is who taught me years before. A Master Craftsman himself, he had time and patience to teach me this craft, and is still on the end of the phone for me, as is Matt whenever I get a bit stuck, or come across a new technique that I’m unsure about. Every days a school day and I can honestly say that I still learn something from every window I work on. Wether thats a restoration, a commission or one of my own pieces.
I bloody love my job! Even still after 20 years of working in stained glass, I run up to my workshop in the mornings with a spring in my step. I’m very lucky, however, that luck has come through lots of hard work, perseverence and patience. In it for the long game. Contact me if your property or business is in need of a Master Craftswoman to come and give your stained glass the TLC it needs and deserves!
