On my stained glass craft course in Devon, I have only one place left on my one day leaded light course on 26th July, get in contact to find out more. This one day course is designed for beginners to intermediates, you will learn how to design your ‘cartoon’, cut glass to a pattern, lead and solder your window. This is a practical day of learning in a small group setting of up to 4 students. So plenty of time for one to one attention. All the materials, tools and knowledge needed are included in the price.

All set on our family run off grid small holding, Oak Meadow in the rolling hills of Devon, this is a lush and inspirational place to come and learn the historical and traditional craft of stained glass making. This craft has recently been added to The Red list of endangered crafts. So, even more of a reason to learn how to do this and see the process’ involved in how we as crafts people make and create this beautiful art working in light and colour.

I designed and created this beautiful magnolia tiffany style lamp. Using youghiogheny mottled glass for the petals. And a vintage Swan neck lamp stand. Really pleased with the results giving a beautiful warm light which will be used for a reading lamp by my customer.

Teaching stained glass

Uncategorized

I abserluty LOVE teaching stained glass!! ❤
I teach 3, 2 hour sessions every Tuesday to my regulars and also do one day stained glass courses for beginners. Learning all the skills and knowledge on how to use the tools you need to create traditional leaded panel, copper foiling (Tiffany style) or mosaic.

All of my Students are fabulous. Its funny and informative, art therapy. Honestly, we laugh, we cry, we share, we learn, we meet people we might never of normally, we learn new skills that sometimes make us feel so focused and zen. And then other times – when the soldering just won’t work as we want it to – its infuriating! But you work through it with advise, watching, talking and learning. And it all comes together and then after hard work and patience, you’ve created you own magnum opus! (According to Sue 😉 )
It’s so important to pass on the skills of traditional crafts like stained glass, so that heritage skills don’t get lost down the line. Once they’re gone, they’re gone. Check out ‘The red list’, which lists the heritage crafts currently viable, endangered, critically endangered and extinct in the UK. http://heritagecrafts.org.uk/redlist/categories-of-risk/ Thankfully Stained glass is presently on the currently viable list due to a healthy interest and various available courses to learn and continue to learn. However, many great institutions have had to cut a vast amount of vocational subjects in the Arts, due to Governement cut backs over the years and not enough emphasise and importance is put into the arts, crafts and in favour of academic subjects.

Today we had Christmassy get together with my regulars as they are taught in 3 groups of 3 they have never met! It was really lovely to share mince pies, mulled wine and a giggle or two! Thanks for being awesome guys, looking forward to next term! Xx
Here are a few of the things some of my Students have produced and some of their lovely faces, plus an inspirational work for Lucy’s painted mermaid face, from Harry Clarke stained glass artist in the middle of the reel!
